Southern Italy is not well known as a golf holiday destination. In the whole Calabria region there are only three established golf courses and they are vey well spread out.

Feudo Montalto Golf Course is situated in Limbadi which is only 2km from Nicotera Marina and approximately 20 minute drive south from the town of Tropea (see our home page for a map of Calabria). Nicotera itself is an historical town which sits at the top of a hill much like Tropea and has buildings that date back hundreds of years.

The course is well tucked away and would be quite difficult to find if it were not well sign posted but once you are in the Nicotera area it is relatively easy to get to. As with many golf courses in southern Italy, Feudo Montalto is a 9 hole course and is surrounded by orange trees and olive groves. There is a 4 star hotel complex with all the usual amenities - restaurant, air con, satellite tv, fridge, safe, tennis courts and large outdoor pool. The clubhouse offers a friendly and relaxed environment. There is also a football pitch and the complex can be used for weddings or conferences.

The course itself is enjoyable with some wide open fairways, plenty of bunkers and a total of 2700 metres for the 9 holes. The longest hole is the 436 metre par 5 (2nd) and the shortest is 120 metre par 3 (5th).

You can go round twice (18 holes) for around 25 euros which we thought was very reasonable. Altough Calabria is not your typical golf destination, we think that there will be a fair bit of investment going into golf over the next few years and a championship course may not be that far away.
