If you are looking for another typical British package holiday you can forget it. There are no full english breakfasts or burger bars in sight. Calabria is all about the Italian experience, from the food to the laid back way of life.

One area tourists should visit is Pizzo. Approximately 15 minutes from Tropea, this area is famous for it's delicious ice cream, especially Tartufo, which is a ball of chocolate ice-cream with a zagbaglione centre, dusted with cocoa powder. If you are feeling adventurous, you could sample the local favourite chili chocolate which can be found in specialist chili shops across the region.

Your visit to Tropea will simply not be complete unless you go and see the Stromboli volcano. This is still active and rumbles two or three times every hour and you can often see small plumes of smoke coming out of the top on clear days. The trip to this island takes between two and four hours but you can always spend the night on the island and sample the excellent sea food in one of the many restaurants.
